MAGIPICS recently produced an animation for Imagine Intelligent Materials, the leading Australian developer of graphene-based coatings for industrial textiles and fibres. The animation shows a geotextile material being sprayed with a Graphene coating. The unique electric conductivity properties of this material (visualized symbolically) offer a convenient means of leak detection.
Graphene is similar to Graphite, one of the naturally occurring carbon forms (another one being diamonds). It is made up of planar sheets of pure carbon, one atom thick, with the atoms arranged in a honeycomb-shaped lattice. It has very unique properties which are intensely studied around the world at present. For example, it is about 100 times stronger than the strongest steel, conducts heat and electricity efficiently, and is nearly transparent.
